Keith Urban, Nicole Kidman, & Consciousness Music

Multi-instrumentalist country-pop singer/songwriter Keith Urban met actress Nicole Kidman in January 2005. They married in June 2006.
Urban’s latest album, Love, Pain & the whole crazy thing was released in November 2006.

Do you think that the love from Nicole changed his life at all?

Do think that love may have played a part in the creation of his latest album?

On Dr. David Hawkins’ logarithmic Consciousness Scale of zero to 1000, the song “God Made Woman,” featuring choir backing and a majestic mix of string arrangements, calibrates at 502.

That is the nonlinear domain of love.

“God Made Woman” from the album Love, Pain & the whole crazy thing will be one of the featured commercial artist songs on our ConsciousWorldMusic.com membership site.

Thank you.

The International Conference on Science and Consciousness - 2007

The International Conference on Science and Consciousness - 2007

is going to be held this April in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Here’s what it’s all about:
“This conference brings together a multi-disciplinary team of experts in the field of consciousness who will share their knowledge through lecture, discussion and experiential sessions. These experts include Judith Orloff, Richard Moss, Guy Finley, Larry Dossey, Norm Shealy, John Diamond, James O’Dea, David Abram, and over 40 others.”

“At some point in history, a split occurred and we ended up with Science and Religion. Science limited its study to the material world and the Church took charge of the metaphysical realms. Now, with science studying consciousness, we are ready to reintegrate Spirituality and Science.”

“This unique conference [serves] as a forum for the exploration of consciousness from both the scientific and spiritual perspectives.

“Jeffrey Mishlove, President of the Intuition Network and host of Public Television’s “Thinking Allowed” said, ‘There has been a tendency for conferences that have the name science in the title to be very much in the head, and to have a kind of competitive edge, which scientists often have. But this event was very whole, very heart-centered and very much needed by our culture at this time.’”

This conference definitely looks like a shift from the traditional scientific-only-based “consciousness” meetings.

Some of my mentors and teachers who will be presenting there include Norm Shealy, Christine Page, Larry Dossey, John Diamond, and Kam Yuen. Amit Goswami from What the Bleep will be there, as well as John DeMartini from The Secret.
I would love to go, and if you are interested, click on the opening link at the top of this post.

Beatles vs. Rolling Stones = From a Consciousness Standpoint

As a health care practitioner, professional musician, and spiritual student, Dr. David Hawkins’ books and CD’s were the key inspirations for this blog, website, and the forthcoming music membership site, ConsciousWorldMusic.com.

In the book “Truth vs. Falsehood: How To Tell The Difference” Dr. Hawkins writes about popular music, and comments on the differences between the Beatles and the Rolling Stones.

“Rock-and-roll, hip-hop, and disco, as well as country-western music, havev a broad appeal in which the rhythm itself carries an unseen energy in response to which the people feel glad to be alive, and the dancing is a collective celebration.”

“It is interesting to look at the difference in the consciousness level of the Beatles’ music and that of the Rolling Stones, ‘the greatest rock-and-roll band that ever lived.’ In the performace of the Beatles, we see dedication to music as a creative art. Eventually, the group disbanded due to the individuality of its members, each following their own muse. In contrast, the Rolling Stones group has continued to perform for more than thirty years, held together by a group commitment similiar to that of a team.

While the creativity of the Beatles was primarily guided by the expression of inner musical inspiration, the Stones are highly participatory and interact intuitively with the emotionality of the audience, which is pulled into the performance rather than just remaining as spectators.”

On Dr. Hawkins’ logarithmic Consciousness Scale of zero to 1000, their research calibrated the overall music (not personality) of the Rolling Stones at 340, and the Beatles at 460.

The overall music of the Rolling Stones (calibrating at 340) benefits 81% of the population of humanity.

The overall music of The Beatles (calibrating at 460) benefits 90% of the population of humanity.

California Guitar Trio and Consciousness Music

JAC & CTG 03-02-2007, originally uploaded by drandrewcolyer.

Last night, I had the pleasure of seeing and hearing the California Guitar Trio (CGT) at the Towne Crier Cafe in Pawling, New York. For those of you who have never heard their music, it is very accessible for almost anyone. Besides their signature three-acoustic-guitar stuff, they also do baroque, classical, jazz, pop, rock, blues, country, surf music, rockabilly, and TV and movie themes.

These guys are outstanding artists, and their shows are always fun.

The acclaimed group consists of guitarists Bert Lams, Hideyo Moriya and Paul Richards. CGT has been together for 15 years, and have released many albums.

Last night’s show featured a combination of their classic and popular material, as well as new material from the upcoming CD’s they will be recording in April.

“We are currently working on material for two new CD’s, one of cover songs and one of original material,” said Paul.

As a group, CGT calibrates at 479 on Dr. David Hawkins’ logarithmic Consciousness Scale of zero to 1000.

Their 2004 release, Whitewater, calibrates at 490.

The positive energy of the group and their music benefits 82% of humanity.

For more information on the California Guitar Trio, check out their website.

Thank you.

John Ondrasik Writes Songs With Integrity

In the February 2007 issue of Keyboard magazine, Michael Gallant’s article, “More Than A Piano, More Than A Song” highlights Five for Fighting’s pianist-singer-songwriter John Ondrasik.

John works hard to write his songs with integrity. “I have to write 100 to 150 songs for a record to get ten I think are worthy.” If he’s not inspired by what he’s writing, he just throws out the songs and goes back to the drawing board. He says that it can be quite a painful process.

Despite the pain, however, “there’s also a joy, when you think you write a worthy song, and you play it from beginning to end for the first time. And that experience really makes up for the pain and suffering. And if you’re one of the blessed few for whom, for whatever reason, the stars align and people are allowed to hear your music, when somebody sings your words back to you, or you see that a song you wrote makes an impact on someone’s life, that inspiration and that kind of feedback gives you the energy to do it again.”

John acknowledges that just because certain music sells a lot of records, and is heard on the radio, doesn’t mean it’s high quality.

“It’s the music business. Listen to the radio — the best songs are not on there. Ray LaMontagne is not on the radio. Jeff Buckley is not on the radio. Leonard Cohen is not on the radio. Is it possible to write songs that aren’t trivial and can become popular? I hope so, because that’s what I’m trying to do. I grew up on artists who did both well — Lennon and McCartney, Joni Mitchell, Sting and the Police, Bono and the Edge, and Kurt Cobain. You can still write songs that are popular and can last. It’s not all about seeing yourself on the Top 20 Countdown or selling a platinum record.”

It’s also really nice to see an artist who is humble, and appreciates and is grateful for his success.

“I’ve been lucky. My goal with every record is to make another one, and in this day and age, that’s all you can ask for. There are better songwriters out there than me who aren’t getting their shot, so I just appreciate getting to do it for a living. I don’t know how long it will last, but I really have lived a lot of what I aspired to as a kid, and I definitely don’t take it for granted.”

On Dr. David Hawkins’ logarithmic Consciousness Scale of zero to 1000, here are the testing results: the overall calibration for the 2006 release Two Lights calibrates at 368; Track 9, “Road to Heaven”, calibrates at 500; Track 7, “I Just Love You”, calibrates at 501.

The positive energy of this album/CD benefits 80% of the population of mankind.

Here’s what one Amazon.com reviewer had to say: “the world could use more of this kind of music, what with a lot of the crap that’s put out now. Good, clean, pure music from the heart, that makes you think, and can bring people together.”

In this Amazon video, you get to hear 2 live tracks and John talking about his music by clicking on this link: Five For Fighting = Two Lights.
